Scarcity vs. strategy: Which camp are you in?

Hi Reader,

I had lunch with a fellow consultant last week - she's a grant writer - and we were talking about business and how tough it's been for the nonprofit world.

With all the funding cuts and chaos, I figured she'd be buried helping organizations find new money.

She said she's been busy talking with people, but they're falling into two camps.

Half say "we need you, but we can't afford you right now." The other half say "we need you, and we can't afford not to hire you."

This Week’s Quick PR Tip: Pay Attention To What the Strategic Orgs Are Doing Right Now - Not the Quiet Ones

The organizations pushing forward aren't ignoring the pressure. They're responding to it differently.

They're reassessing programs, finding partners, and getting creative about their work. On the comms side, they're tightening their messaging, positioning their leaders to talk about how they're pivoting, and getting more proactive in telling their story to keep current supporters close and bring new ones in.

There's a quote attributed to Bill Gates: "If I was down to my last dollar, I'd spend it on PR." That may or may not be the right call for your organization. But the decision to stay visible when resources are tight is a strategic one. And some organizations are making it right now.

If the only thing you're seeing is organizations going quiet, it's easy to assume that's the only option. It's not - and doesn't have to be.

To staying visible - especially when it's hard,

Rhiannon

The team is happy, the moment passes, and the coverage sits on your press page where almost nobody who matters most ever finds it. The instinct is to chase the next media hit and get new people to discover you. Sure, that's a real win - it's just not the only one. This Week’s Quick PR Tip: Make Sure the...

Monday Morning PR Minute ⏱️ Your weekly dose of PR inspiration | Read time: 1 minute | Hi Reader, You have difficult news to share with your community or customers, and every instinct is telling you to wait and hope no one notices. I've had two client conversations this month around this same thing. One had bad news to share with the people they serve and kept rewriting the message until it barely said anything. For another client, we were pitching a feel-good story, but they wanted us to...
